Job Search Strategies - Research target employers over the Internet
There are two sides to this Internet offer of the research topic. Employment interviewers now expect that you know a lot about their organization than before on the Internet. The downside is that the Internet is a wonderful place to do is research. You can find all kinds of information out there about the company, industry and key personnel.
Go to the website of the company, Google the company name and the name of the person who will interview you. FindPeople who find the company on Linkedin work and what they can tell you. LinkedIn "talks" are usually e-mail exchanges with people in your network or e-mail introductions to the people in the network of another person. Identify someone who is not or does not work for the company in your extended network made possible by the search for the company name. Ask them what kind of company it is for work. You will also find specific information about corporate culture, informal business rules, etc. This is no longer available from official sources.
The first use of your research to industry and target companies you are interested in continuing. Most traditional research tools (such as Dun & Bradstreet, the book of lists, or Hoover) are now available online. Resources such as the book of lists, or list the company members of a trade association of the major resources are tight around your search down from the universe somewhere some 100 to 150 companies that youto examine further.
Once you have narrowed that list to 50 to 75 Use of Internet research about these companies, which could be your target companies to learn. You want to end with 30 to 50 companies at the end of this extensive research. Remember, this is a living list, as you gather more information about a company may decide that you are no longer interested. Or your research can be a company that you are not aware, that could identify a perfectfit.
This list is an important component of the strategy for your job search. It is the list you will share with everyone and ask if they know someone at every company that it is ready, you would in the introduction.
If you scheduled an interview, whether it is for a specific opening or not, you want to really dig into the research of this company. Take advantage of the company's website, Google and other major search engines, the network ofContacts, online news sources, etc. And you can be sure that the interviewer Google!
The more prepared you are, the better the impression you will make.
