What Are the Prospects For a Foreigner to Get a Job in the US Today?

In the US today with Unemployment above 9% it is has meant many immigrants have been laid off along with their US counterparts. Combine all this with the recent anti-foreign worker legislation introduced in the US Congress, it has been very gloomy both for immigrants outside the US wanting to work or study here as well as those already on work visas like the H1B visa, L1 visa or E3 visa

in 2007 for US students around the country, 50% of new US College graduates had jobs already and now this figure is only 20% of new US College graduates so foreigners of course will find it even tougher

What Can You Do To Keep Positive & Get A Job In the US?

Consider that as amid crisis there is always opportunity and companies like Apple, Intel, Microsoft, etc. (the modern global powerhouses) all started in the midst of deep economic recessions and bleak times.

The fact that the H1B visa total is unfilled now and fewer foreigners are looking for jobs means that there is less competition for you in your US Job search. Most people on an H1B visa tend to be from Asian backgrounds and/or highly educated and work in the newer sectors of the economy is also beneficial given the unemployment rate for these groups are far lower than the National average.

It is also worth noting that many US recent undergraduates are postponing enter the workforce and doing Masters programs meaning less competition from them as well.

The set of circumstance that foreign immigrants are facing today taken with an optimistic outlook are favorable in many ways that you will never again see in your lifetime.

You can certainly find the silver lining in this story economic cloud to live and work in the US for many years to come.
